Multi-jet Sleeve Valves
DN150-DN1800/PN10-PN40

Operating principles:

KARON multi-jet sleeve valves are the ultimate in control valves. They regulate pressure or control flow without any operating limitation, using a patented method of dissipating the hydraulic energy in the water in valve body without any problems caused by cavitation and vibration.

Operation of the KARON Multi-jet Sleeve Valve is based on dissipating energy by throttling the water through a unique multi-jet tapered nozzle pattern that causes the fluid jet from each individual nozzle to collide with other jets. This collision of the water jets achieves a total loss of velocity energy within the throttling sleeve. The throttling sleeve is designed so that the points of water jets are concentrated at the axis of the sleeves.

In order to maintain this centralized collision of all the water jets, a uniform peripheral pressure, or velocity head, must be maintained around the throttling sleeve at the entrance to each nozzle. In the Karon Model 410 Angle Pattern Sleeve Valve this uniform peripheral pressure is maintained by offsetting the throttling sleeve from the axis of the inlet chamber in such a way that the chamber becomes progressively smaller as the water moves through the chamber. In the Karon Model 711 Axial Flow Sleeve Valve, a recommended special velocity guide that moves along the sleeve as the valve is throttled, maintains this uniform peripheral pressure.

Vibration is eliminated in the KARON Sleeve Valves by eliminating velocity head loss in front of the nozzles and by using advanced designs to insure that the cavitation that may occur is confined to the center of the throttling sleeve, completely surrounded by water. As these cavitation bubbles become unstable and collapse, they collapse in the water, not on the surface of the valve, thus objectionable noise, vibration and valve damage is eliminated.

Advantages:

--- No back pressure requirements.
--- No inherent velocity limitations, up to choke flow.
--- Extremely short face-to-face dimensions.
--- Unobstructed interior design.
--- No cavitation index limitation.
--- Vibration-free under all operating conditions.
--- Standardized, proven designs.
--- Ideal for remote or SCADA control.
--- Low head loss when needed.
--- Open or free discharge.

Fixed Cone Valves
DN150-DN2600/PN10-PN40

Operating principles:

KARON's Fixed Cone Valve is a free-discharging valve commonly used as a turbine bypass valve, reservoir drain, or continuous discharging flow control valve, and operates cavitation and vibration free through its engine operating range, and has excellent flow control even during the first 10% of stroke.

KARON's Fixed Cone Valve has a fixed cone with a hydrodynamically advanced shape, supported by four vanes designed to eliminate vibration and flutter. Flow is controlled by movement of an external stainless steel sleeve which has a drip tight metal to metal shut off against the fixed cone. When discharging into the atmosphere, the jet spreads out in a wide cone angle and breaks up into a fine spray. If containment of the jet is desired, a hood can be installed which not only injects air into jet, but also concentrates the flow.

Karon's Fixed Cone Valve has been independently ed. Results of the ing showed that there was no significant mechanical vibration, and at the extreme open position, the discharge coefficient was 0.86, both with and without a hood. In addition, the valve had an almost linear flow character against opening, even during the first 10% of stroke.
